Maxene Bottom Clayton, age 90, formerly of Russell County

Maxene Bottom Clayton, age 90, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021, after a short illness.

She was born on May 27, 1930, in Russell Springs, one of eight children born to the late Homer and Edith Bottom. Though she resided in Louisville for 70 years, Russell Springs was still “home”. While she was a hair stylist in her younger years, most of her life was spent as a devoted homemaker. Maxene was a member of Parkland Baptist Church for 70 years.

Maxene was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Elwood Clayton; son-in-law, Bill Renders; mother-in-law, Lora Burton; brother, Lyman Bottom; and sisters, Olena Akers, Betty Jane Foley and Carolyn Bottom.

She is survived by her daughter, Pam Renders; grandson, Gerry Renders (Kristen); great-grandson, Clayton Renders; brother, H.M. Bottom (Sue); sisters, Mary Ann Rubarts (Jimmie) and Brenda Holt (Jerry); sister-in-law, Joye Bottom; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Bro. Matthew Dalton officiating. Musical selections will be performed by Steve Stapp. Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at Bernard Funeral Home.
Social distancing guidelines will be followed by everyone in attendance. Facial coverings are required.
