Lakers pick up district win over Clinton County

The Russell County Lakers picked up their eighth consecutive win with a 5-1 victory over district foe Clinton County on Thursday.

The Lakers led 4-0 after three innings and were able to finish out the victory in the team’s home opener.

Cody Luttrell pitched the complete game for the Lakers, picking up the victory by giving up just one run and six hits over seven innings while striking out 12 batters.

At the plate, Nick Aaron, Gavin Gossage, Nathan Lawson, and CJ Vonfumetti drove in runs for the Lakers.

The win moved the Lakers to 11-3 on the season.

JV team wins in walk-off fashion

Brady Bell crossed home plate on a walk in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Russell County Lakers JV team a walk-off 6-5 victory over Clinton County Thursday.

Trace Stringer earned the win on the mound for the Lakers, pitching four innings, giving up five runs and striking out three batters.

At the plate, Stringer, Camden Carpenter, Alex Reynolds, Bryce Cowell, and Landon Walters drove in runs for the Lakers.
