Deadline to apply for supplemental school year is Saturday

The deadline for parents to apply for a supplemental year for students through SB 128 is here.

Russell County Schools Superintendent Michael Ford said parents have until midnight on Saturday, May 1 to submit the application survey, which can be found on the district’s website here.

Completing the survey does not lock any student into the supplemental year. It only provides guidance to the board of education on how many students are interested. Parents can rescind the request by May 31.

This bill will allow K-12 students to apply for a supplemental school year in response to pandemic-related disruptions in education.

The supplemental school year allows students to repeat, retake, or supplement courses or grade levels already completed.

The Board of Education will review the applications and make a determination to grant the supplemental school year by June 1.

The district released more information about SB 128, which can be found here.
