On Thursday The Mighty Laker Bowling Team started competition in the KHSAA 2nd Region Tournament.
The Laker Boys competed in the team event on Thursday and qualified as the #1 seed in the region.
In the first round of the bracket, the Lakers received a bye and moved on to the second round to face North Hardin.
The Lakers won the first three games 268-165, 193-157, and 235-159 to move on to the semi-final round to face John Hardin.
John Hardin won the first game 225-214 but the Lakers turned it around and won the next three games 213-147, 204-180, 234-197 to move to the Championship round against Taylor County.
The Lakers defeated Taylor County in three games 260-193, 267-171, 265-195 to be named the 2nd Region Champions. Their scores in the Championship Round also set a new record for a three game baker series with a 792 series.
On Friday morning, four of the Laker Boys competed in the singles event. After 3 games, Dylan Stringer finished in 25th Place, Zack Kean finished in 12th place, Jason Womack was in 5th Place, and Nick Blakey was in 2nd place.
With Jason and Nick making the top 8 cut, they bowled 2 more games. Jason finished in 6th place and Nick was still in second with the top 4 step ladder finish to go. Nick defeated Jake Dickens of Campbellsville in the second game of the step ladder to move to the championship game against Caleb Davis of Central Hardin. Nick Blakey defeated Caleb 204-195 to be named the 2nd Region Boys Champion.
On Friday afternoon, 4 of the Lady Lakers competed in the singles event. After 3 games, Makayla Melson finished in 34th place, Harmonie Yocum finished in 33rd place, Ryleigh Withers finished in 23rd place, and Summer Aaron finished in 22nd place.
On Saturday, the Lady Lakers competed in the team event and qualified as the #1 seed in the region. In the first round of the bracket, the Lady Lakers received a bye to move on to the second round to face North Hardin. The Lady lakers won the first three games 93-77, 122-64, 92-82 to move on to the semi-final game against Central Hardin and lost 190-151, 146-106, 174-135 to finish in 3rd place.
The Laker Boys will compete in the KHSAA State Championship on March 22nd at Executive Strike & Spare in Louisville at 8 a.m. ET. Nick Blakey will compete in the Singles Championship the same day at 2:30 p.m. ET.
