An investigation is ongoing with the Russell County Sheriff’s Office and the Russell County Coroner’s Office into a death that occurred on the Cumberland Parkway Sunday night at around 8:30 p.m.
Russell County Sheriff Derek Polston said his agency, along with the coroner’s office, are still gathering details but Russell County Coroner Mark Coots and Sheriff Polston did tell WJRS News that a 27-year-old man identified as Edy Reyes was a passenger in a 2005 Chrysler Minivan operated by Courtney Shuck traveling west on the Cumberland Parkway when he exited the vehicle while traveling at highway speeds.
The Russell County Coroner’s Office pronounced Reyes deceased at the scene. Coots said Reyes’ body was found near the 59 mile marker in the median.
Russell County Sheriff Deputy John Wine is the investigating officer in the incident.
Russell County EMS, Russell Springs Fire, and Russell Springs Police also responded to the scene.
