Fatal ATV collision in Adair County

On Monday, March 1st, 2021 at 4:02pm, Adair County 911 received a call of a collision between a vehicle and an ATV.

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office, along with emergency services, was dispatched to Burton Garmon Road, 5 miles north of Columbia.

Upon Sheriff Josh Brockman and Chief Deputy Justin Cross’s arrival, they found that a Ford SUV had collided head on with a Honda 4-wheeler.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Ryan Scott Banks, 36 of Columbia, was operating a Honda ATV south on Burton Garmon Road, along with his juvenile passenger also of Columbia.

Banks collided with a 2002 Ford Explorer operated by Wanda Wallace, 27 of Columbia, who was traveling north on Burton Garmon Road.

As a result of the collision, Ryan Scott Banks was pronounced deceased at the scene from injuries he sustained.

His juvenile passenger was air lifted from the scene by Air Evac to the University of Louisville, where he is listed in serious condition.

Ryan Banks was not wearing a helmet, however his passenger was wearing helmet.

Wallace, along with her passengers, received minor injuries, but were not transported to a medical facility.

The collision is being investigated by Sheriff Brockman.

Chief Deputy Justin Cross and Kentucky State Police assisted at the scene.

Agencies responding: Adair County Sheriff’s Office, Adair EMS, KSP, Air Evac and Columbia Adair Fire Department.
