Bill would require vision test to renew drivers license

A bill passed by the Kentucky Legislature would require Kentucky drivers to pass a vision test each time they renew their driver’s license.

The vision test could be done by an eye-care professional or other health professional before the license renewal. Or the screening could be done at driver’s license offices.

Anyone failing to meet “minimum visual acuity standards” would be referred to a vision-care specialist.

Similar measures are in place in 42 other states.

If signed by the Governor, the bill would go into effect in 2024.
