Now that the filing deadline has passed, it appears only one incumbent school board member will face opposition in November.
Fifth District School board member Gerald Murray received a challenge from James Gray. Murray is serving his second term as member of the school board. Gray, who is employed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, is seeking his first public office.
Two incumbent school board members will be re-elected as each are unopposed. Brenda Higginbotham, who represents the Jamestown area, and Joy Wilson, who represents the Russell Springs area, will both serve another four-year term on the school board as they did not draw opposition.
Board members Dick Kazuke and Sheila Wicker will be on the ballot in two years.
