Kentucky Sees its Largest Daily Increase of COVID-19 Cases

Kentucky now has 591 cases of the Coronavirus…

That was Governor Andy Beshear during his daily press conference on Tuesday evening.

There also seven news deaths, bringing the state’s total to 17.

Here in the Lake Cumberland Area, Adair and Cumberland County had their first confirmed cases of the virus. Pulaski is now up to 12 cases. During his address, Initially, during his press conference, Beshear said at least one new case was in Russell County. However, a short time later, the Governor’s office and the Lake Cumberland District Health Department said that was incorrect, and that no case has been confirmed in Russell County as of yet.

The Governor announced a new order concerning grocery store workers…

Beshear also announced an executive order that pertains to retired first responders and corrections officers…

The Governor also said that the coronavirus would likely reemerge in the fall.

All of the people who have died from the coronavirus in Kentucky have been older than 60, which is the highest-risk demographic.

On Kentucky’s almost 600 cases, half of them are in Fayette and Jefferson counties.

 Beshear said yesterday he will likely extend school closures, which now go through April 20th, by at least two additional weeks, and that people should be prepared for the possibility that in-person classes will be canceled for the remainder of the school year.   Russell County School Superintendent Michael Ford said in an email to parents and guardians last night that he does not expect classes will resume this school year.

Also yesterday, the Kentucky High School Athletic Association again announced that all Spring sports and the State High School Basketball tournaments were still suspended indefinitely.
