State health officials warn if you plan on spending time outside during this unusually mild stretch of weather remember to use insect repellents, do tick checks, and take showers after being outside. Ticks live in grassy, brushy, or wooded areas, or even on animals and spending time outside walking your dog, camping, or hunting could bring you in close contact with ticks and many people get ticks in their own yard. Conduct a full body check upon return from potentially tick-infested areas. Using a hand-held or full-length mirror to view all parts of your body can aid in detecting ticks before they bite.
