Heavy Rainfall Moved Through the Area Sunday

Heavy rains throughout the day Sunday, into the evening, resulted in a flood advisory being issued for Russell and surrounding counties.

WJRS News has received several reports of more than two inches of rainfall in the county on Sunday. The potential for an additional one inch of rain overnight led the National Weather Service to issue a flood advisory around 8 o’clock last night for Russell, Clinton, Cumberland, Adair and Casey counties.

The heavy rains prompted Adair County Judge-Executive Gale Cowan to issue a statement shortly before 9 o’clock last night, announcing the closing of four county roads due to high waters. WJRS News attempted to contact Russell County officials last night about any road closings in the county, but was not successful.

WJRS News will keep you updated of any further weather related issues, such as road closures, if and when they do occur.
