Locally, in the 83rd House district, two candidates have entered the race: Josh Branscum of Russell Springs and Mark Polston of Nancy. Both men are Republicans. The filing deadline for State Representative is next Friday, January 10th at 4:00 pm at the Secretary of State’s Office in Frankfort. Incumbent State Representative Jeff Hoover, who has served in that position for the past 23 years, announced in September he would not seek re-election.
WJRS News has learned recently that an Albany businessman has expressed strong interest in filing for the seat and has been meeting with potential supporters. Also, at least one other person from Russell County has been discussing a potential candidacy within the past couple of weeks. The 83rd House district consists of Russell, Clinton and Cumberland counties, and a portion of Pulaski County.
