Russell County School Board Recognizes Preschool Teachers and Assistants

Nearly a dozen preschool teachers and instructional assistants were honored during Monday evening’s Russell County School Board meeting.

Superintendent Michael Ford presented certificates recognizing their work after the preschool programs at all three district elementary schools received Kentucky All STARS Level 5 ratings—the highest level awarded through the state’s preschool quality recognition system.

The designation was awarded to Jamestown Elementary, Russell Springs Elementary and Salem Elementary.

Preschool Director Bridget Smith says the achievement reflects the combined efforts of teachers, assistants, administrators, support staff, families and the Russell County community.

The Kentucky All STARS program evaluates preschool quality in several key areas. Smith says the Level 5 rating assures families that their children are receiving a high-quality early education designed to build language, math and social skills while preparing them for future academic success.

The district also transitioned to a four-day preschool program with the beginning of the new school year.

The Level 5 recognition for all three schools will remain in place through August 1, 2029.
