Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell is encouraging residents to support local farmers as the Commonwealth celebrates Farmers Market Week.
Commissioner Shell noted that Kentucky is home to more than 170 farmers markets, providing communities across the state with access to fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, meats, baked goods, flowers, and other farm products. Shell said farmers markets remain a vital resource for fresh food while also supporting Kentucky farm families and local economies.
The observance coincides with National Farmers Market Week, which runs August 2nd through August 8th. The week recognizes the important role farmers markets play in strengthening local economies, improving access to healthy foods, and connecting consumers directly with the farmers who grow their food.
Commissioner Shell is encouraging Kentuckians to visit a nearby farmers market this week and support the local producers whose work helps feed communities across the Commonwealth.
