As the start of a new school year draws closer, Russell County Schools and local emergency responders are coming together Wednesday for their annual school safety meeting.
The meeting will bring together law enforcement, fire departments, EMS, rescue personnel, emergency dispatchers, school resource officers and school administrators to review and strengthen safety procedures for the upcoming school year.
Russell County Schools Superintendent Michael Ford says the district is fortunate to have outstanding partnerships with local and state first responders who work together to help protect students, teachers and staff.
Director of School Safety, Deputy Jackie Grider, told WJRS News Wednesday’s meeting will include discussions on school safety procedures, reviews of past incidents, video-based training and roundtable scenario planning designed to enhance emergency preparedness and coordination among all responding agencies.
School officials say the annual meeting is an important part of ensuring everyone is prepared to respond quickly and effectively should an emergency arise during the school year.
