Over 20 people taken to hospital following reported gas leak at Wayne County Senior Center

Over 20 people were taken to the hospital following a reported gas leak at the Wayne County Senior Citizens Center yesterday.

Wayne County officials say it happened just before noon local time yesterday. Monticello-Wayne County 911 received a call that multiple people at the center were experiencing dizziness, fatigue and nausea.

Authorities say 21 people were taken to multiple hospitals, including Wayne County Hospital and Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset. No fatalities have been reported, but a couple individuals that were taken to Lake Cumberland Regional were considered critical.

The exact cause has not yet been identified, but it is suspected that methane gas was one of the main contributors. The affected area was secured while environmental monitoring and air-quality testing was conducted by state and local agencies.
