Russell County FFA was well represented at this year’s Kentucky State FFA Convention. The Ag Sales team competed in team sales practicum, individual sales, and took a written test over business practices. Team members were Blane Smith, Abby Fox, Kendall Melton, and Tate Reynolds.
Three members competed in Agricultural Public Speaking. These members prepared and delivered a six-minute speech then answered questions about their topics from a panel of judges who are industry professionals. Baylee Flatt competed in the Crop category. Kendall Melton competed in the Greenhouse category and placed 1st in the state. Piper Garmon competed in the Horse category and also placed 1st in the state. To win the state contest, you must be the chapter winner, place in the top 2 out of the 13 chapters in the regional contest and then beat the 23 other winners in the 12 regions across the state.
Three graduated seniors were awarded their Kentucky State FFA Degree. Blane Smith, Abby Fox, and Kendall Melton. To earn this degree, they must have previously earned the Greenhand and Chapter Degree, have been an active FFA member for at least two years, have completed at least two years of agricultural education, demonstrate leadership ability, earned and productively invested at least $1500 through SAE or have worked at least
300 hours, have participated in a minimum of three regional and two state and/or national activities, have participated in at least 25 hours of community service. Only 510 of the over 24,000 KY FFA members were awarded their state degree.
Current RC FFA President Piper Garmon and RC FFA Vice President Baylee Flatt represented the chapter as voting delegates at the state business meeting. Piper gave the Lake Cumberland Region report as the LC Region Vice President.
The Russell County FFA chapter was well represented at the state convention and came home quite successful.
