Liberty Mayor Dr. Sam Haddad is preparing to declare a local State of Emergency as concerns continue to grow over declining water levels at Lake Liberty.
According to the Casey County News, officials with the Kentucky Division of Water visited Liberty again Wednesday to assess conditions at the city’s primary water source. Following that visit, Haddad announced plans to issue a Declaration of Emergency during a special called meeting on Monday, June 15.
City leaders are currently finalizing a water shortage response plan, although specific details have not yet been released.
Officials are urging all water customers in Liberty and throughout Casey County to begin conserving water immediately. Despite recent rainfall, authorities warn that the community’s water supply could be depleted within as little as two to three months if conservation efforts are not successful and the area does not receive above-average rainfall.
Additional information about the emergency declaration and water shortage response plan is expected to be released following next week’s special meeting.
