Russell County and multiple surrounding counties have been approved for federal assistance from FEMA related to the January winter storm.
18 counties were approved for public assistance including Russell, Wayne, Pulaski, Cumberland and Clinton.
Locally, the winter storm caused widespread power outages totaling over 4,000 homes and businesses without power at its peak. The storm caused damage in several parts of the county due to trees falling.
FEMA’s public assistance program provides grant funding to state and local governments to help communities recover from major disasters or emergencies.
