The City of Albany is set to receive $17 million in state funding for a new water treatment plant.
This is in addition to a federal grant totaling a little over $7.3 million that was also awarded for construction of a new water treatment plant.
City officials in Albany say a new water treatment plant is necessary to accommodate the increasing water demand from local residents.
The funding comes from House Bill 900, which passed through the Kentucky House and Senate on Wednesday and was delivered to the Governor.
The bill includes multiple one-time spending projects across the state totaling around $1.7 billion over the next two years.
