Around 230 Russell County third graders took part in Farm Safety Day, held this past Friday, September 4th, at the Russell County Fairgrounds.
The annual program is a collaborative effort between the Russell County Extension office and many local businesses with assistance from the Russell County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee.
Farm Safety Day is designed to raise awareness of farm hazards, teach important safety procedures and help reduce farm-related injuries.
Students attended presentations covering fire, gun, first aid, sun, grain, wildlife, A-T-V, lawnmower, tractor and outdoor safety.
About 20 teachers attended, along with school assistants, Russell County High School F-F-A members, local volunteers and other community members.
Presenters included local volunteer firefighters, the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, Russell County E-M-S, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, the Kentucky Division of Forestry and several local agriculture organizations and businesses.
