A Somerset man is charged with attempted murder and another man is charged with assault following an altercation near West Highway 80 in Pulaski County yesterday.
According to reports, deputies with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office were called out to a domestic dispute early yesterday morning near the 4400 block of West Highway 80.
The sheriff’s office said the dispute began when 38-year-old Steven Stout and his wife arrived at the scene to assist his wife’s son who ran out of gas. The sheriff’s office said while they were there, a second vehicle arrived, and 49-year-old Billy Dugger of Nancy and his wife got out of the vehicle, and it is alleged two separate physical altercations broke out.
According to reports, Stout said he attempted to break up both fights. During the altercation, Stout allegedly observed Dugger hit his wife with a baseball bat and saw the son’s girlfriend allegedly walking toward her vehicle.
Stout told law enforcement he believed the girlfriend was attempting to retrieve a firearm, so he entered his truck and drove into the girlfriend and Dugger, according to an arrest citation.
Dugger, his wife, and the girlfriend, identified in police reports as Dugger’s wife’s daughter, fled the scene toward Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. At the hospital, officers found Billy Dugger, along with the girlfriend, suffering multiple serious injuries.
Police reportedly located Stout’s wife at the scene off West 80 suffering from a head injury that occurred from that alleged hit with a baseball bat.
Stout was arrested and charged with attempted murder. Dugger was arrested and charged with assault -2nd degree and criminal mischief – 2nd degree. Both men were lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center at around 3:30 a.m. local time yesterday.
