Additional details released regarding fatal shooting in Adair County this week

Additional details have been released regarding a fatal shooting that took place on South Highway 55 in Adair County earlier this week.

According to Kentucky State Police, 56-year-old Phillip Bruce Hadley of Columbia was arrested and charged with murder after he allegedly shot and killed his son, 33-year-old Jordan Hadley, also of Columbia.

State Police say the two were involved in a heated altercation leading up to the shooting. According to state police, Phillip Hadley told investigators there had been an ongoing conflict between the two. Phillip told investigators that Jordan shoved him twice and as Jordan approached him again, Phillip drew a .40 caliber handgun from his waist and shot Jordan.

Phillip reportedly told state police he believed his son was reaching for a handgun, but said he never actually saw one, and state police say they did not discover a gun at the scene.

Phillip Hadley remains lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail. The investigation is ongoing by Kentucky State Police.
