20-year-old Amish man killed in Casey County wreck

A 20-year-old Amish man was killed in a wreck in Casey County yesterday morning.

Kentucky State Police Post 15 said they were called out just before 7:30 eastern time yesterday morning to the scene on Highway 127 near the intersection with Highway 501.

State Police say 20-year-old John Gingerich of Casey County was traveling north on US 127 in a horse-drawn wagon when he was struck in the rear by a Kia Sedona operated by 33-year-old Jacob Goodman of Columbia.

State Police say the wagon did not have any rear-facing lights or a slow-moving vehicle reflective placard

Gingerich was transported from the scene to the Casey County Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by the Casey County Coroner.

Goodman did not suffer any injuries in the accident, but three juvenile passengers in the vehicle were transported to Casey County Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police.
