Last week on local news, we reported some changes to the medication policy at Russell County Schools stemming from statewide changes.
Russell County Schools Superintendent Michael Ford was a guest on Community Conversation on WJRS this week where he discussed the new policy on administering prescription medications at school.
Changes were also made to the policy regarding over-the-counter medicines given to students.
The new policy says over-the-counter medications cannot be given to a student without written consent on file. Previously, verbal permission could be given by a parent or guardian over the phone. That will no longer be allowed.
Parents must return the Healthy Kids Clinic registration with the written consent for over-the-counter medications for their student to be allowed to receive medications from the school nurse.
Ford said these changes were implemented due to changes made by the Kentucky School Board Nursing Association.
