The heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service for Russell and surrounding counties continues until 7 o’clock tomorrow evening.
The weather service said heat index values could rise as high as 104 in the area.
The high temperatures and humidity have the potential to cause heat-related illness.
Residents are reminded to drink plenty of fluids and stay in air-conditioned areas as much as possible. Residents are also reminded to check on their neighbors and those who do not have air-conditioning, particularly the elderly, children, and those with chronic illness.
Residents should take extra precaution when outside, like wearing lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Strenuous activity should try to be limited to the early morning or late evening hours.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments for those who work outdoors.
