Russell County under heat advisory

Russell County and the surrounding area are under a heat advisory until 7 p.m. central time Wednesday.

The National Weather Service in Louisville advises that the heat index could rise as high as 106.

The hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illness.

Residents are reminded to drink plenty of fluids and stay in air-conditioned areas as much as possible.

Residents should take extra precaution when outside, like wearing lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Strenuous activity should try to be limited to the early morning or late evening hours.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments for those who work outdoors.
