Westerfield discusses possible library funding cuts

A recently-issued executive order has the potential to affect local libraries across the country, including Russell County Public Library.

Library Director Lindsey Westerfield explained more about the local services and opportunities made possible by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. That organization is facing a cut in funding from this weekend’s executive order.

Westerfield said IMLS has been key in providing grant opportunities for the library. The library has been able to utilize these grants to expand services without increasing local taxes.

Westerfield encouraged residents to contact their legislators about the issue. However, she said it’s just as important to continue supporting the local library by visiting and utilizing its services.
