Lakers fall to Bowling Green in region semifinals

The Russell County Laker Basketball team saw its season come to an end last night, falling to the Bowling Green Purples in the region semifinals by a score of 86-71.

The Lakers led 18-16 at the end of the first quarter, but the Purples came out strong in the second quarter and outscored the Lakers 27-13 to take a 12-point lead into halftime. The Lakers would cut the lead to 9 in the second half, but the Purples were able to come out on top.

Owen Loy led Russell County in scoring with 25 points on the night. followed by Mayes Gosser with 17 and Dylan Stanelle with 13.

The Lakers finish the season with a record of 18-12.

Wednesday’s region championship will see 16th District champion Clinton County take on Bowling Green.
