Patti Lamb was appointed to the Russell County Industrial Development Authority Board last night by the Jamestown City Council.
Mayor Regena Hinton…
Councilman Dwight Richards nominated Lamb for the position, and Councilman Barry Coffey nominated current board member Scott Pierce for another term.
When the roll was called for which council members were in support of Lamb, five of the six council members voted in favor, with Coffey voting against.
Following the vote, a lengthy discussion ensued between the council and local business owner Landon Helm.
Helm said he reached out to a couple council members in the last day or two about nominating his father, Roy Lee Helm. Landon said he was disappointed that his father was not even nominated for a spot on the board, and said he believed his father was one of the most qualified individuals in the county for a spot on the board.
Council members Richards and Tony Wright, in particular, were firm in their defense of choosing Lamb for the position, noting her years of business experience with the Bank of Jamestown.
Lamb will assume her position as a board member next month.
