A bill in the state legislature would allow businesses to pay local occupational taxes through the state treasurer’s office. Under House Bill 253, the state would then send those collected funds to the local governments, with a handling fee.
At last night’s Russell Springs City Council meeting, the council unanimously voted in favor of a resolution that opposed that bill.
Russell Springs Mayor Eddie Thomas said he wants state legislators to know the city opposes House Bill 253.
The Kentucky League of Cities and Kentucky Association of Counties are opposing the bill.
