Russell County, Lake Cumberland area follow statewide trend in December unemployment rise

Russell County and the Lake Cumberland area followed a statewide trend last month with a rise in unemployment.

Russell County saw its unemployment rate rise 1.6 percent last month compared to December 2023, coming in at 6.6 percent last month compared to 5 percent the previous December.

That was the fourth-highest unemployment rate in the 10-county area. Clinton County had the highest unemployment rate in the area at 7.4 percent, followed by McCreary County at 7 percent, and Wayne County at 6.8 percent.

Pulaski came in at 6.1 percent, followed by Adair County at 5.9 percent, Casey at 5.4 percent, and Cumberland County at 4.3 percent.

Surrounding counties saw an average increase in unemployment of 1.7 percent last month compared to the previous December.

Statewide, all 120 counties saw an increase in unemployment last month.
