Jamestown firefighters responded to two smoke and fire calls Tuesday afternoon, just 15 minutes apart.
Fire Chief Jeff Landers told WJRS NEWS firefighters were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. to the county clerk’s office at the Russell County Courthouse after smoke was reported inside. Firefighters found light smoke coming from a storage room, where an overheated HVAC system had filled the office with smoke. They used fans to clear the building.
As crews were finishing at the courthouse around 3:45 p.m., they were called to a home at 510 East Cumberland Avenue for a reported clothes dryer fire. Landers said firefighters found a small fire behind the dryer and in the basement, caused by a clogged dryer exhaust vent. They quickly extinguished it and ventilated the home.
Fourteen Jamestown firefighters responded to the two calls. Crews were on scene for just over an hour and a half.
