The circuit judge for the 29th Judicial Circuit, covering Adair and Casey counties, has been suspended for 14 days due to misconduct.
According to the Judicial Conduct Commission, Judge Judy Vance Murphy is suspended from her duties without pay until November 25.
The commission said in September of last year, Judge Murphy used her influence as a judge in handling a personal matter. The commission also said she inappropriately engaged in discussions about ongoing cases with people who weren’t involved in a span of nearly 4 years from 2017-2021.
The commission also noted instances of Murphy using her smartphone from behind the bench during court proceedings for non-court matters.
Murphy also reportedly leveraged her influence for personal gain by requesting that a suspended attorney sign an affidavit
stating the attorney did not view Judge Murphy as vindictive.
In the order released by the commission, it states Murphy acknowledged these allegations to be accurate.
