The Eli Volunteer Fire Department announced over the weekend that it will receive a major grant to purchase a new tanker for the department.
The fire department announced it will received an Assistance to Firefighters grant from FEMA totaling more than $428,000 to go toward the purchase.
This will allow the department to replace a 1982 GMC tanker the department currently owns.
The fire department says this new tanker will be safer and more efficient to respond to emergency calls.
The fire department will be responsible for a match for this grant totaling around $21,000. The department said it is planning additional fundraisers to help raise these funds.
