The Russell County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a phone scam going around where a caller is posing as a member of the sheriff’s department.
According to Russell County Sheriff Derek Polston, a woman received a phone call that showed as if it came from the sheriff’s office and the person on the line advised her she would be arrested if she didn’t bring a certain amount of money to the courthouse, she would be arrested.
The person on the phone also told the victim that a deputy would be there to escort her into the courthouse.
Polston reminds Russell County residents that the sheriff’s office does not call and ask for money.
