Two females who were housed at the Adair County Youth Detention Center in 2022 have filed a lawsuit in federal court against the facility.
Also named in the lawsuit are the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice, the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, and several state and local officials.
The females reportedly hope to expand the case into a class action lawsuit to include other youth who were detained in the facility. That class action will reportedly consist of several individuals who were held in isolation at the center and subjected to abuse and neglect.
The two plaintiffs who filed the lawsuit are now adults and no longer in custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
