As an ongoing look at data from the Kentucky Kids County Survey, today we take a look at how Russell County performed in a few categories related to children in the foster care system.
According to the data, Russell County has had a substantial increase in the number of children in foster care over the last few years.
The number of children in foster care — calculated as a rate per 1,000 children ages 0-17 — was 39.5 percent from 2015-2017. That increased to 62.7 percent in the years 2020-2022. That ranks 84th of Kentucky’s 120 counties.
The number of children exiting foster care to reunification declined, from 41 percent in 2015-2017 to 25 percent in 2020-2022.
