The Lady Laker Softball team held off a late Clinton County rally and came away with a 9-6 win over Clinton County in the 16th District Championship on Saturday.
The Lady Lakers fell behind early as Clinton County scored three runs in the opening frame, but the Lady Lakers bounced back and took the lead.
The Lady Lakers led 9-3 going into the final inning. Clinton County scored three runs in the 7th inning as the Lady Bulldogs attempted a comeback, but a flyout to left field provided the final out and gave Russell County the district title and capped off an undefeated district slate for the Lady Lakers.
Tarry Reynolds drove in three runs for the Lady Lakers, Mallie McQueary drove in a pair of runs, and Addie Davis, Jadyn Mann and Kiara Kemp each drove in a run as well.
Kemp pitched five innings in relief for Russell County, giving up three runs.
Sophie Shearer, Tarryn Reynolds, Emma Popplewell, Payton Kinnett, and Jadyn Mann were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Lady Lakers will continue play in the upcoming 4th Region Tournament. The region tournament will take place May 28-30 at Western Kentucky University. The draw for the 4th Region Tournament will take place Friday, May 27 to determine the bracket.
