
The Russell County Lady Laker Softball Team advanced to the 16th District Championship and clinched a spot in the 4th Region Tournament with a 7-5 win over Metcalfe County Thursday evening.
The Lady Hornets took a 5-1 lead in the top of the third inning, but the Lady Lakers bounced back in the bottom half to tie the game.
8th grader Kiara Kemp entered in relief and pitched four scoreless innings as the Lady Lakers were able to take the lead and come away with the win.
With a win, the Lady Lakers advance to Saturday’s 16th District Championship to take on the winner of the matchup between Clinton County and Cumberland County.
The district championship will be hosted by Russell County at the Kay Morris Softball Complex and first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
