Jones steps down as Lady Laker softball coach

Russell County High School Softball coach Scott Jones has stepped down, per High School Athletics Director Michael Carpenter.

Jones served as softball coach for two years, but his first season in 2020 was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, the Lady Lakers went 16-12 but were upset by Cumberland County in the first round of the 16th district tournament.

Carpenter said the softball coaching job has been posted and a committee tasked with hiring a new coach will be formed soon.

The first softball game is March 15th.
