Lady Lakers, Lakers in Action Over the Weekend

The Russell County Lady Lakers and Laker boys were both in action over the weekend.

On Friday night, the Lady Lakers traveled to Campbellsville to take on Taylor County, a team that beat the Lady Lakers in the first game of the season.   Russell County got the victory on Friday night, 47 to 40, to improve their season record to 13-10.   The Lady Lakers will be back on the hardwood Monday night when they host Green County.   Game time is set for 7 o’clock from Laker gym.   You can join Jeff Hoover for all the action on WJRS with pregame on the radio getting underway around 6:45.

The Laker boys were on the road on Friday to play Wayne County in Monticello.   The home team jumped out to a 20 point halftime lead, 39 to 19, before the Lakers came out in the third quarter and outscored Wayne County, 24 to 4, to tie the game at 43-43 heading to the fourth quarter.  In the fourth quarter, Wayne County was able to pull out the victory, 61-57.   The Lakers were led by junior forward Jay Milburn who had 18 points and 10 rebounds, while senior Scott Hamm finished with 15 points and 9 rebounds, and 8th grader Owen Loy had 11 points.

On Saturday, the Laker boys traveled to London and South Laurel High School to play Jackson County.   Lakers got an easy win over Jackson County, 73 to 48.   Milburn had 17 points, while Devontae Grayson had 15 points and 8 rebounds, Hamm had 14 points, and freshman Trace Stringer had 11 points.   Jackson County is now 4-10 on the year, while the Lakers record now stands at 12-12.

The Laker boys will also be in action Monday night when they travel to South Warren High School in Bowling Gree.
