The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is preparing lakes across the Cumberland River Basin for potential rainfall associated with Hurricane Isaias.
The Corps says the current storm track puts the region on the outskirts of the heaviest weather, with three-quarters of an inch to one and a quarter inches of rain forecast through Sunday. Those estimates could change as forecast models develop.
Reservoirs, including Wolf Creek and Dale Hollow, have ample capacity to absorb runoff, with all flood control storage space available following a relatively dry year.
The Corps says drought conditions from about mid-April through late June limited hydropower generation and water releases.
Water managers are actively managing lake operations over the next three days in preparation for possible changes in the forecast.
Marina operators and dock owners are encouraged to monitor the weather and secure their property. The public should also watch for flood warnings and flash flood alerts from the National Weather Service.
