Kenneth Russell Blakey, 75, of Russell Springs, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born December 8, 1950, in Jamestown, he was the son of the late John Sidney and Susie Campbell Blakey. Kenneth retired as a construction superintendent from Grayhawk in Lexington and thoroughly enjoyed working odd jobs at homes on Lake Cumberland. He was also honored with the title of Kentucky Colonel, a distinction bestowed upon him by Governor Paul E. Patton in 1995. Kenneth was of the Methodist faith.
Kenneth was a man of many talents and truly the definition of a “jack of all trades.” There wasn’t much he couldn’t do, and if something needed fixing, he was always the man for the job. On any given day, you could most likely find him tinkering around in his garage, mowing the yard, or working on his next project. Sitting still was never really his thing, and he always managed to find something that needed his attention.
Above all, Kenneth loved his family, and the title of “Dad” extended well beyond his own daughters. He shared 50 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Ann, and took great pride in his daughters and grandchildren.
Kenneth was a hardworking man who appreciated the simple things in life and had a personality that was entirely his own. His family will forever cherish the memories they made with him, the lessons he taught them, and all the little things that made him so special.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Robertson Blakey, of Russell Springs; three daughters, Bethany (and Scott) Holt of Bowling Green, Amber Helm of Russell Springs, and Mandy (and Adam) Davis of Jamestown; one brother, Reverend John (and Faye) Blakey of Columbia; two sisters, Joyce (and Randall) Conner of Jamestown and JoNell (and the late Joe Keith) Selby of Russell Springs; eight grandchildren, Beckham Holt, Britton Holt, Cassidy Emerson, Breydon Helm, Brenner Helm, Adaline Davis, Bella Davis, and Lillian Davis; one sister-in-law, Christine Blakey, of Russell Springs, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, David Blakey, and one sister, Faye (and the late Edwin) Morgan.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Brother Bobby Cole officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Bernard Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42503. Contributions may be made at the funeral home.
