A major infrastructure improvement project is now underway in the City of Russell Springs, replacing some of the city’s oldest water lines.
Cleary Construction of Tompkinsville has begun work on the city’s cast iron, asbestos, and concrete water line replacement project. The improvements are being funded through a grant of more than $2 million awarded to the city.
Construction recently got underway in the Old Columbia Road and Gentry Mill Road area and according to Brandon Welch with Ken-Viron Engineers, the project is ahead of schedule.
During Thursday night’s Russell Springs City Council meeting, Council Member Sherri Daniels, who lives in the affected neighborhood, praised the construction crews for their work. Daniels said many of her neighbors have commented on the project’s quick progress and noted the work has resulted in only one brief interruption of water service.
Mayor Eddie Thomas is asking residents whose water lines are being replaced to remain patient while the work is completed. He assured property owners that any driveways, yards, or other areas disturbed during construction will be repaired to the city’s satisfaction once the project is finished.
City officials say the project will modernize aging water infrastructure, improve reliability, and better serve Russell Springs residents for years to come.
