The City of Liberty will begin pumping water from the Green River into Lake Liberty on Monday morning following the successful completion of a major emergency water supply project.
Liberty Mayor, Dr. Sam Hadaad, says crews completed fusing and installing the temporary pipeline from the Green River this week, along with the installation and testing of the pump system. Officials report operational testing went extremely well, clearing the way for pumping operations to officially begin Monday.
The emergency project was launched after Lake Liberty’s water level dropped dramatically because of prolonged dry conditions. Despite recent rainfall, officials say the lake remains approximately 16 feet, 5 inches below normal.
As the new water source is introduced into the system, customers who receive their water from Lake Liberty will be placed under a boil water advisory for at least one week. City officials emphasize the advisory is a standard safety precaution during the transition to the supplemental water supply.
Residents are also being asked to continue conserving water while pumping operations are underway to help restore Lake Liberty to normal levels.
The City says additional public information and instructions will be released as the project moves forward.
