“I have had some time off,” Greenway, who missed the team’s first meet, said. “I am out there running. We really have a fun team. Mom (the team’s coach) gets us running hard and I like to run for Providence. I have to defend some titles but want to do better in one of my events.”
She has won a state championship in the 300-meter hurdles and been part of state championship relay teams. She was sixth in the long jump at last year’s state meet.
The future UK point guard will play in the Jordan Brand Classic Friday at El Camino Junior College in Torrance, Calif. with future UK teammates Savvy Swords and Emily McDonald. One team will be coached by Long Island Lutheran coach Christina Raiti, who coaches McDonald and Swords.
“I am really hoping we are all on the same team there,” Greenway said since the LuHi teammates were not on the same McDonald’s team with Greenway.
She said her father, former NFL linebacker Chad Greenway, reminds her to make sure to cherish all she has accomplished. She is Minnesota’s all time points and assists leader in basketball and all-time goals scorer in soccer.
“To think what I have done the last six years is crazy and may not happen again. It took some time for me to think about that,” she said.
What she didn’t do was waste a lot of time thinking about the future when rumors recently surfaced that UK coach Kenny Brooks might leave for Virginia.
“Me, Emily and Savvy talked and said there was no way that was happening. He called my dad and said not to listen to the rumors,” Greenway said. “I saw some things (on social media) but I was never worried.”
