A bill introduced in the Kentucky Senate would eliminate the state’s hunter education requirements that have been in place for over 30 years.
Senate Bill 200 would remove the requirement to complete a hunter education course for those 18 and over in Kentucky.
Currently, state law requires anyone born on or after January 1, 1975 to complete a hunter education course before hunting in Kentucky.
The Kentucky Department for Fish and Wildlife Resources has noted a significant decrease in hunter fatalities since implementing the hunter safety requirement, with incidents dropping by about 40 percent according to the most recent studies.
