Thousands still remain without power following weekend winter storm

The winter storm this weekend knocked out power to thousands of homes and businesses across Russell and surrounding counties.

In Russell County, power outage totals were over 4,000 yesterday. That number has decreased, as between 2,500 and 3,000 South Kentucky RECC customers locally remain without power.

South Kentucky RECC has around 18,000 customers across the service area without power, representing around one-quarter of customers.

The electric cooperative said this storm will remain a multi-day restoration event for many members. All South Kentucky crews and contract crews are out working to restore power, and mutual aid crews could be coming in soon.

Residents are asked to remain patient, as crews work toward restoring power to everyone impacted.
