Progress being made on COPS grant to hire security officer at hospital

Progress is being made on the COPS grant that will fund the addition of a security officer at Russell County Hospital.

Russell County Judge-Executive Randy Marcum was on Community Conversation this week and said the county will soon be advertising to hire a certified police officer for the position.

The grant will provide funds for an officer for a three-year period. Plans are being discussed on how more security officers can be hired to serve at the hospital.

The COPS grant is federally funded through the United States Justice Department.
